Animal Guide: First Purchases and Milestones
Quick Summary
Plan your first Revolution Idle animal purchases with Zoo coordinates, AP costs and a budget route to Slowdown and the Laboratory.
Revolution Idle Animal Guide: First Purchases and Milestones
Start with a specific target: your first animal for Slowdown, four for Auto Slowdown, then seven for the Laboratory. Buying an expensive bonus before a nearby animal-count milestone can leave you with fewer useful unlocks. This guide covers the early buying decision and the later milestone checkpoints.
Unlock the Zoo and read AP costs correctly
Animals unlock at Eternity Milestone 3, reached at three Eternities. Animal Points (AP) can be purchased with EP, IP and Score. Each currency has its own rising purchase cost. Read the next price in your game rather than treating an early-game exchange rate as a permanent conversion formula.
The following coordinates count rows from top to bottom and columns from left to right in the 9 × 9 Zoo. They are location labels for this guide, not a claim that the interface displays those coordinates. Costs and bonuses were checked against the Animals reference on 2026-10-13.
| Animal | Row, column | AP cost | Bonus |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cat | 1, 1 | 1 | IP gain multiplied by Eternity count |
| Dog | 2, 1 | 2 | Score exponent +0.03 |
| Parrot | 3, 1 | 2 | IP gain multiplied by animals bought |
| Fish | 4, 1 | 2 | IP gain multiplied by completed ECs |
| Ferret | 5, 1 | 2 | IP gain ×100 |
| Jerboa | 4, 2 | 2 | Lap speed ×3 |
| Rooster | 3, 3 | 2 | Promotion 4 power ×1.45 |
| Goat | 2, 4 | 2 | Generator multiplier ×3 |
A budget route to your first seven animals
The following is our budget-based starting route, not a universal speedrun optimum. It selects inexpensive nodes to reach unlocks while avoiding a bonus that depends on challenges you may not have completed.
- Buy Cat for 1 AP. You now have one animal and can inspect Slowdown.
- Buy Dog, Ferret and Jerboa for 2 AP each. The cumulative cost is 7 AP for four animals, unlocking Auto Slowdown.
- Add Parrot, Rooster and Goat for 2 AP each. The cumulative cost is 13 AP for seven animals, unlocking the Laboratory.
Before following the route, check that the prices and availability match your current build. If a purchase is unavailable, choose another affordable animal shown in your game; the target is the owned count. Fish is also inexpensive, but its bonus depends on completed Eternity Challenges. With none completed, do not choose it expecting an immediate IP multiplier.
This route answers “what can I afford next?” It does not account for every existing Star, Generator or challenge bonus. If your problem is specifically low Score or weak generators, compare the corresponding bonus with the time required to earn its extra AP. Record the time needed to reach your next target before and after the change.
Milestones to plan around
The Animals reference, checked on 2026-10-13, lists these owned-count milestones:
| Animals owned | Result | What to check next |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Slowdown unlocks | Watch recovery time after a reset |
| 4 | Auto Slowdown unlocks | Check the lap-speed threshold |
| 7 | Laboratory unlocks | Read LP production and RP allocation |
| 10 | Promote no longer resets anything | Review promotion automation |
| 20 | Passive IP based on the Infinity reward | Check the EC milestone condition below |
| 48 | Ten free levels for every RP upgrade | Reassess the current Lab build |
| 81 | Dilation unlocks | Prepare for a penalized Eternity run |
The 20-animal effect needs Eternity Challenges Milestone 4, reached at 10 EC completions, to work fully. Owning 20 animals alone is not enough evidence that a particular IP farming setup is complete. Compare the Animals and EC milestone panels together.
Slowdown: avoid making every reset crawl
Slowdown trades lap speed for additional ascensions. A new player can make progress worse by applying it so aggressively that the first lap after a reset takes too long. Auto Slowdown becoming available at four animals does not mean its smallest threshold is immediately appropriate.
Keep a short observation window after enabling it. Watch the slowest color, the time to recover after Prestige or Promote, and whether your next target arrives sooner. If recovery becomes painfully slow, reduce Slowdown or raise its automation threshold. Later non-resetting milestones change this decision; see the automation settings guide.
Respec is an Eternity reset
The Zoo respec button refunds spent AP and removes purchased animals, but also resets the current Eternity. Take a screenshot of the build and check your current run before pressing it. Treat a rebuild as a planned reset, rather than a free swap during a challenge or a near-complete target.
At seven animals, continue with the Laboratory unlock guide. For 10, 20, 48 and 81 animals, review the milestone checklist above. These pages keep the buying route, Lab mechanics and later unlocks separate so you can choose the guide matching your stage.
For the 81-animal milestone, read the Dilation guide and check its entry conditions before starting the run.
